summer's here
The Holy Week has set in. It's already Holy Thursday. Even before the whole Christendom started their penitential rites, law students had theirs a week earlier. A week of sleepless nights, mental anguish, emotional distress, physical injuries and a little less of besmirched reputations, as far as I'm concern. I've been at it (studying) since Quasimodo Sunday. (The Sunday before Palm Sunday. I forgot how it came to be called Quasimodo. I just know it. Something to do with forty days or what not.)
Civil Procedure Coverage: Rule 1 to 71. I know. It's just 71, with an average of 20 sections per Rule. The most tortuous of all is Rule 39, otherwise known as Execution of Judgment. Jezuz! I've studied at Starbucks Intramuros with Ajay the whole day. Bandang hapon dumating si Sir Kiko. My quasi-kamag-anak na grade school history teacher ko. So minus one hour of study and one hour gained of bonding with people of the old school.
Monday. The first day of the Legal Apocalypse. The day when the good will be separated from the great. A time when many die due to high blood pressure, anemia, emphysema because of excessive smoking during the 24 hour period of studying, diabetes because of excessive consumption of coffee, tea and all energizer liquid concoctions, demonic possessions, vertigo, nausea, dehydration, bolemia, anorexia, etcetera, etcetera. As early as 8 in the morning I was already in my Carrel in the Graduate School Section of the Central Library, where I continued my Isang Linggong Pag-ibig with Kryshelle, Part Two, kung saan nagpaparamdam ang espiritu ni Nicole Kidman tuwing tanghali dahil sa kaka-spray niya ng Chanel Number Five, na nilalabanan ko naman sa pamamagitan ng exorsismo ng aking Armani, CK at kung ano-ano bang banal na tubig na dala ko araw-araw. We took the exams at the the stuffy and humid Reading Area that smells like fungus, where suddenly mushrooms pop out of the table. Thanks to the exams last year, we had a close idea what the questions would be. Nota Bene: Statutory Construction 101, Herrera, Remedial Law --- In answering multiple choices, in case of doubt, the answer is C. Because it is Judge Herrera's middle initial.
Tuesday. Credit Transactions ni Ordo Luminis Legis Founding Father Attorney Vincent Bolivar. Oh well, wala akong masasabi. Medyo madali lang, except sa preference and concurrence of credit. So far, I'm safe. I think.
Wednesday. Transportation Laws. Coverage --- from top to bottom, left to right. To be more specific, the Civil Code provisions on Common Carriers, the Code of Commerce, The Public Service Act, the ancient Carriage of Goods by Sea Act, the antiquated Warsaw Convention, the Marcos-vintage Salvage law, na tungkol sa pag-sa-salvage ng mga barko, at hindi tungkol sa paraan ng pagpaslang ng tao.
Thursday. Administrative Law. Coverage --- cover to cover, literally. Mula sa front cover ng Administrative law, hanggang sa cover ng Law on Public Officers, hanggang sa back Cover ng Omnibus Election Code. I didn't study the first book, because it is a metaphysical impossibility to read three books, two of which are thicker and heavier than encyclopedic editions of Webster. Imagine how could you memorize the rules on appreciation of ballots and election offenses in under an hour. Good luck na lang. At dumating nga ang good luck.
Friday, Negotiable Instruments Law. Medyo napaaga ako ng dating sa eskwela. I decided to take breakfast at BK, since I was 30 minutes early for the opening of the library.
Saturday. Social Legislation. I could muster no more of the physical torment and ass pains from sitting more than 8 hours a day. That fucking Agrarian Reform Law, SSS, GSIS, Pag-Ibig, PhilHealth, y otra mas. We were assigned to different rooms by the Dean’s office, but the leched asungot of Usec. Jimenez, si Atty. Alvin Manuel na mahilig mag-power trip, kahit isa lamang siyang aliping sagigilid, ay pinag-si-siksik kameng lahat --- four sections, in the New Bar Review Room. Jezuz Krayst! We could sue his ass for torts and wreckless negligence for making the place a fire, earthquake and fart hazard.
Palm Sunday. I've slept well. Then I slept more.
Monday. I just re-read the cases and the codal provisions on Agency and Trusts. I was suppose to recount the whole week on my blog that Monday. But after finishing my entry, and after pressing the publish button --- BOOM!!! Page could not be found. Bwiset! Come the exams in the afternoon, Morgan the assistant proctor, whose gonna graduate this year, wished me luck. He's judge aguinaldo's protege. He's the guy from whom I bought my Swiss Army. Question number one. After fifteen minutes, I was looking around. No pen was moving. It was another metaphysical and cosmological impossibility. My brain's electrical activities where going down, down, down. Finally, I have to decide between conflicting rules, laws and court decisions to apply.
After the exams, I almost screamed when I went out the Civil Law Lobby. Damn! Consumatum Est! Tapos na ang isang linggong dusa. It was time to have fun. Biskwet and kuya lon mower went to pick us up. We had dinner at Yellow Cab in Timog. Kookie followed, after my coaxing, since he was the only one left in his apartment. I told Biskwet that it would be a 'friendly' gesture to invite him anyway. So he came. I told him to bring clothes na pambahay. Do I look like a fucking liar?!
After Wawu left, we went to Camp Crame, sa bahay ni General, upang magpakalasing. Hayun, nalasing nga. Subalit kelangan nang mag-evacuate bigla-bigla. Wala pang isang oras ang tulog namin. Parang may sumigaw ng "RAID! RAID!" It was understood. We had breakfast at Kookie and Friends' Inc. Apartment. Then went our separate ways.
Today I woke up early to go to Baclaran. It was a covenant. I promised to go there at least once every summer or semestral break. I've always been devoted to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. She never fails me. I hope next week my friends and me could go to St. Jude.

The Boy gave The Girl a book. I was one of The Boy's favorites. To The Boy, it was a meaningful gesture, since he wouldn't be seeing The Girl everyday for the next two months or so. The Boy didn't know The Girl was going somewhere beyond the sea. For three weeks The Girl will be in another land, the extension of the Land of Milk and Honey. The Girl thought The Boy already knew. The Boy didn't know. The Boy was saddened. But He kept it to himself and hid his sadness until the messenger of the Ravens could deliver his words to The Girl. The Girl said it wasn't a big deal. I was just three weeks. She said sorry cause she thought The Boy already knew. The Boy made a big deal about it. Maybe the Ravens do not fly that often. But to The Boy, the sheer thought of being physically separated in two different spots in the planet were terrifying. The Boy wonders will The Girl read the book The Boy gave her while she flies with the Giant Goose. He wonders, will The Girl think of him while she's there in the isle of pearl and golden sunsets.
