another returning

The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck... I got mine at National Bookstore at the SM Racetrack (San Lazaro). I've been planning on this book for almost a year but haven't really got the time to read it. Plus, there's a promotional booksale at NBS San Lazaro (which contained more school supplies than books), so I paid a meager 230 bucks for it. Didn't know that this was written in sometime in the 1930's and became an award-winning film. I definitely am gonna find some extra time to read this. In between my studies, I'd be reading it. (How nerdy could I get?!). This, I believe will be the seventh novel about China and the Chinese people that I have read. Why am I so engrossed with China?! I dunno... I just find their world so fascinating, full and vibrant, even the lives of the commoners, especially during the war and the last days of Henry Pu-Yi. There's something about China that's definitely attractive, aside from the culture and civilisation which has been existing for the past 5000 years, the people or the characters in the books and documentaries are full of human conflict and self-salvation, etc. As for films, who would ever forget the JOY LUCK CLUB, THE LAST EMPEROR, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, HERO, JACKIE CHAN FLICKS FROM THE 80's? it has been said by many learned men, that in China, as in most Asian Countries (and in Latin America, I suppose... and shown to us by the eminent works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez) reality and magic go hand in hand. And they call it MAGICAL REALITY (note: this is not the same as SURREALISM)

I was so sure that I there would be no classes last night (since I only have one class every wednesday, which is tax1), but about 10 minutes to 6pm, Carol texted me: "ANJAN NA DAW SI KASALA." I said to myseld "OH FUCK! OH FUCK!" I just woke up after a 30 minute siesta, and to travel from here to UST would take me an hour (30 minutes just to get out of malabon, because of the leched street renovations, the traffic at tonsuya and the friggin stop light at c4 road.) within fifteen minutes I was bathed, clothed and rushing up and about with my hair still partially wet from the shower just to catch a jeep in time. I unboarded at Alvarez st. (the shortcut route... just a few minutes walk to the Dapitan gate) and walked so fast just to reach my destination. good things Atty. Kasala wasn't still in class.
Her tummy has gotten bigger since three weeks or so ago. Damn! I'll miss my free wednesday... It was one heck of a short two weeks. And she didn't even give us prior notice of her return. anyhow, bygones be bygones.
So much for that...
