Yesterday, I went to St. Jude Church in Malacanang to attend the novena with Joann and my old college buddy Derrick. We went to Gateway Mall afterwards via the hype LRT 2 station. It was my first time to ride the damn thing. (Haha! Pa-virginal effect pa ko.) The thing was damn nice. Nicer than the MRT which I used to frequent when going to and fro Makati.
We then had lunch at Taco Bell, where I pigged out on cheese quesadilla, an original taco and a double decker taco. (What can I do? I haven't had breakfast and I jogged early that morning.) After the hearty feast, we walked around trying to figure out what to do. Movies were an option. But our choices --- Ms. Congeniality 2 and the Pacifier --- already started 20 minutes earlier. So, we did what law students do best. Coffee.
No, it wasn't Stereotypical Starbucks, but the savvy The Coffee Beanery which reminded me of better days in UST where smoke gilds the air coming the breathe of the likes of Sir Bob Torres, and the other AB Professors and students who spend most of the day indulging in coffee, sweets and nicotine. We spent four hours just talking and talking and talking about law school, our allegedly half-consummated and/or always frustrated but somehow essentially non-existent love lives, and of course, about me.
Yes, it is quite necessary to talk about me. I have always been the hottest topic of the majoring years reminiscence. Funny how my inherent assholeness always becomes the topic of the conversation. Yes, I was the cool guy. I was the snob. I was the brainiac. I was the misunderstood. What can I do? Back then my rule was If I Have it, I flaunt it, and you live with it.
I have always been the misunderstood person. Everybody sees me as mayabang. I know, I am. Then all those people who hated my guts realized during our retreat that I wasn't what I seem. I was the nice guy. Well, not really. At least they love me na. Hahaha!
Maybe our theory was correct. It probably is the partial influence of the 'in' crowd which I was in and constantly changed through time. Most of these people are only as good as they look. Pam-porma kumbaga, but not much of the 'true' friends. But most of it… it was just really me. Butch always nagged me then that I and some of my circles (of whom I shall not mention) are the 'elite boys and girls' of AB. I said Nah. We were just the raptors on top of the food chain.
I was indeed mostly superficial at that time. I can't believe I was. Well, almost everybody was. Siguro, right now I can say that we are always in a constant path to maturity. When I entered law school I bowed down and showed no one my dark side, with the observant approbation of Joann and Carol, which they say I did became quite different from the way I used to. Siguro nga talaga I was a bad person back then. Even Anya doesn’t like before. (Hahaha! Anya, mag-comment ka d2!) But I hate it when some people show off their tail feathers exceedingly even though there is no mating season in law school, lalo na kapag mejo personalan na ang usapan. It just fires me up. Siguro nga, galit ang mayabang sa kapwa mayabang.

Today I had two great blessings. Well, the first good news is a secret and concerns a friend of mine. I was damn happy for his blessing. Second, the cosmic karma might be restoring the order in the universe. Our business might be on the path of revival. Our prayers are being answered, coupled with the virtues of humility and patience. When my grandmother told me the results of the legislative inquiry in the Local City Council about the ferry franchise by the rival, I knew at that instant, that our ancestors were watching over us and did not fail us. This is not some Chinese Feng-shui thingy. But sometimes, In times of need, your predecessors will intercede to Heaven in your behalf. I also know (not just believe) that St. Jude had a hand in this. So, I've all things go well, I promised to spread the faith to a friend in need.

Carol will be leaving tomorrow for Guam. She's be spending two to three weeks there. I will miss her.
